Veritas Low Angle Smoothing Plane

Veritas Low Angle Smoothing Plane

FREE DELIVERY AND A FREE MIXED HOBBY PACK WITH THIS ITEM!

This low-angle bevel-up smooth plane is ideal for smoothing surfaces and for end-grain work. 12° bed angle, coupled with a 25° blade bevel, yields an effective cutting angle of 37° that minimizes tearing. The adjustable mouth is easily moved with the front locking knob. Can be closed to a narrow slit for fine shavings with minimum tear-out or opened for deeper cuts. A unique stop-screw in the throat adjusts to whatever mouth opening is ideal. It lets you open the mouth fully for blade removal, yet restores the exact setting. Combined feed screw and lateral adjustment mechanism allows accurate adjustment of the blade. Set screws in the sides prevent the blade from shifting and provide true lateral adjustment. Sole is 254mm long and 63mm wide. Accurately machined, the sole is flat. Surface ground to a high degree of finish. Blade is 50mm wide, 3.2mm thick, made of A2 tool steel. It is lapped on the non-bevel side to a flatness tolerance of 0.0002” or better over the working surface, and with an average roughness surface finish of 5 micro-inches (0.000005”) or better! For difficult grain, additional blades are available: 38° in A2 or 01and 50° bevel blades in A2 or O1 tool steel as well as an A2 toothed blade.
